Chi Nei Tsang

In Chinese, "chi" means energy and "nei tsang" means internal organs.  Chi Nei Tsang, an ancient Taoist tradition, is a specialist massage technique that uses abdominal massage, breath work, and applied chi kung to support the digestive system, internal organs, and the meridian system.  Even though Chi Nei Tsang focuses primarily on the abdomen and internal organs, it works on every part of the body as well as mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects.  It addresses all vital systems of the body: digestive, lymphatic, nervous, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular-skeletal system, and the meridian system.  The pivotal concept of Chi Nei Tsang is that all disease-causing tensions and blockages can be traced to the abdomen.

Chi Nei Tsang treatments utilize a deep, soft, and gentle touch.  The abdomen, perhaps more than any other part of the body, requires the touch of tenderness, strength, compassion, and absolute presence.  Throughout the session, I will invite you to bring your breath and attention to wherever my hands move.  This will support you in bringing awareness to and making contact with emotional charges, blockages, and aspects that might have been hidden or forgotten.

Some of the healing benefits of Chi Nei Tsang:
  • improves digestion and elimination
  • balances the metabolism
  • relieves the body of excess stagnation
  • stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems
  • strengthens the immune system
  • increases blood and energy flow to the internal organs
  • releases energy blockages and deep-seated tension
  • restores vitality
  • addresses unprocessed emotional charges
  • improves breathing
  • relieves chronic back and shoulder pain caused by visceral imbalances

The training of Chi Nei Tsang practitioners is rigorous to assure a high level of technical skills, understanding of emotional charges, and a solid practice of chi kung and Taoist meditation which aids in the healing work.

I have over 950 hours of Chi Nei Tsang training and am a certified advanced CNT practitioner through:
- Gilles Marin (Chi Nei Tsang Institute, Oakland)
- Mantak Chia (Universal Tao Healing System)
- Tiffiny Fyans (Quintessence Healing Arts, CNT Mentorship Program, Berkeley)

Also, I am currently training with Gilles Marin to become a certified Chi Nei Tsang Instructor through the Chi Nei Tsang Institute in Oakland.

I am at present engaged in a doctoral research study on the efficacy of abdominal self-massage in the treatment of adult constipation.
